I am currently in Brazil studying everything specialty coffee. (Follow the journey here!) I’m immersing myself in workshops and courses (like this roasting course in São Paulo), and I’m also exploring the coffee rich regions of Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo by personally visiting coffee farms and meeting with people in the industry.
On October 15th, I start working with a café/roastery in Belo Horizonte, further developing my roasting abilities! Until then, I am taking advantage of my free time and venturing off to as many farms as possible to experience firsthand the origin of this plant and how what happens on the farm affects the final cup.
I just got back from visiting a coffee farm that employs a mechanical harvest, and starting next week I will venture east to assist in the harvest of a farm that uses hand selection techniques.
Time to learn, learn, learn!
